CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Welcome to the newsletter

THE HOTEL

The change of ownership of the hotel has been very smooth as far as the golf club is concerned with Graeme Ferguson Lacey honouring the agreement we had with our previous landlord Malcolm King that takes us through to February 2005.

THE COURSE

The course has seen some minor changes with the introduction of a new tee at the 3rd hole which is fantastic, the grass bunker on the left hand side of the 13th being levelled off to make for a simpler run onto the green (not so good) and we also have a new 1st tee. There has been no major programmes undertaken by the green staff over the winter and all the greens are where they were last year but still difficult to find. Simon Freeman came along to our last committee meeting which gave us the opportunity to voice our opinions about the course and it was refreshing to be reassured by Simon that he will endeavour to include us in his thinking process for any future projects. The course is in fantastic condition and this year will be no different than previous years that “if you are not straight you are dead” or should I say “it’s OK I saw it bounce, ha ha…..”

SENIOR CROSS

This year we are introducing a Seniors match play tournament during Cross week so for those of us who are not quite up to the rigours of the Cross or the Plate you will be able to enter the Seniors provided you are over the age of 55 years, have a current handicap and are still breathing. One small point I forgot to mention is that you have to try to qualify for the Cross first, it’s easy not to qualify after all I did it last year.

Am Am

On Saturday 7th August (day after the Cross final) you will have the opportunity to enter a team for the Am Am competition. Your team to consist of four players, one of which must be a lady, a junior or a category 4 player. The format will be a shotgun start, followed by a barbeque, £5 entry for each player.

CROSS WEEK SPONSOR

Burn Stewart Distillers have kindly agreed to sponsor the club during Cross week and have been very generous in their support of the club. They have agreed to support the Visitors v Locals, the new Seniors tournament and also there will be some prizes during the week.

Finally can I take this opportunity to thank all the committee members for their support during the course of the year and I look forward to seeing you all during Cross week.

Kind regards,

Derek Gray
